Sierra Nevada Off Road Academy is now open for business. We teach off-road driving across California and Nevada - hands-on instruction for every skill level, every rig.
What we teach
We focus on practical, real-world technique. The kind of skill set that keeps you safe on the trail, gets your group home in one piece, and makes you a better driver in any vehicle you climb into.
Our six in-person classes cover:
- Intro to Driving Off Road - 4x4 fundamentals, tire placement, and reading terrain for your first days in the dirt
- Intro to Recovery - gear, kinetic and winch technique, and rigging for getting unstuck safely
- Trail Leader - communication, spotting, and the judgment to run a group on the trail
- Recovery + Trail Leader - our combined recovery and leadership class over back-to-back days
- EV Class - off-road driving built around electric rigs: weight, regen, and EV-specific technique
- 1:1 Private Training - personalized coaching for you and your rig
Three online classes fill the gaps:
- GPS / Mapping - planning and navigation
- Intro to Four-Wheeling - fundamentals before you hit the dirt
- Off-Road Radio Basics - GMRS and HAM for trail comms
Who we teach
Everyone. Brand new owners who haven’t put a tire in the dirt. Experienced drivers who want to lead groups. EV drivers who keep getting told their truck “won’t really go off-road.” (It will. We’ll show you how.)
We train Jeeps, Toyotas, Fords, Broncos, Rivians, Land Rovers, Polaris RZRs - if it has more than two wheels and an electric motor or an engine, we’ll work with it.
Why we built this
Off-roading at its best is a community. People helping people learn how to enjoy public lands responsibly, drive their vehicles to the edge of capability without going over it, and bring their friends along. We’ve spent a combined 60+ years on dirt and 50+ years teaching, and we wanted a place to put all of that to work.
